“You know, I should have shot you in the face.”

From The Take.

Living in Paris as a young ex-pat, Michael (Richard Madden) has made quite a life for himself as a pickpocket and low-level criminal.  When Michael steals a bag from a woman named Zoe (Charlotte Le Bon), he thinks nothing of it.  However, she had actually been carrying a concealed bomb for her boyfriend, Jean (Arieh Worthalter), and was distracted enough by her conflicted conscience that she allowed the bag to be stolen.  Thinking that there is nothing of value in the bag, Michael tosses it a few moments before it explodes, and then the entire city comes to believes he is a terrorist.  Tom Briar (Idris Elba) is a brazen, but dedicated agent with the CIA, who has been stationed at the Paris station as a last chance.  Tom’s boss (Kelly Reilly) assigns Tom to find Michael before the French authorities (led by José Garcia) can identify and capture him.  Tom captures and brings Michael in to interrogate him, and he quickly realizes that he is guilty of only stealing the bomb, so Tom decides to use him to find Zoe.  However, while Tom and Michael search for Zoe, the group behind the bomb (including Thierry Godard, Théo Costa Marini, and Mohamed Makhtoumi) is also searching for the would-have-been bomber to tie up loose ends.  As the city spirals into riot-fueled chaos because of a manipulated social media campaign and influencers, Tom struggles to keep Michael in line while also finding those truly responsible for the bomb before it’s too late.

This action movie takes a fairly straightforward story line and manages to create an edge-of-your-seat adventure for viewers.  Elba and Madden lead well while also bringing a nice balance to their roles.  A fast paced story filled with solid action and enjoyable twists, The Take is a must-watch movie.
