“Okay.”

From Bumblebee.

In 1987 when their home planet falls to the Decepticons, the Autobots are left with no choice but to scatter across the universe abandoning their planet and search for a new base.  Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) sends B-127 (Dylan O’Brien) to protect the planet Earth so the faithful soldier arrives on Earth, but unfortunately he lands in the middle of a military training ground mission led by Agent Burns (John Cena).  The dozens of human agents are not the worst of his problems though, as the Autobot was followed by a Decepticon (David Sobolov) and loses his voice in the fight that ensues.  As his memory and power cells are shutting down, he sees and transforms into an old VW Beetle before slipping into dormancy.  Searching the scrap yard for parts for her dad’s old car, Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) stumbles across the unloved Bug and makes decides to use it as a new set of wheels; she takes the car home to fix it up, but quickly discovers that she got much more than she bargained for.  Still struggling with the death of her father, Charlie seems to live at odds with her mother (Pamela Adlon), brother (Jason Drucker), and stepfather (Stephen Schneider) and become fast friends with the Transformer she lovingly names Bumblebee.  When the new kid next-door Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) stumbles into the garage and meets Bumblebee, the trio quickly become inseparable.  Desperate to crush all the remaining Autobots, two Decepticons (Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux) are sent to earth in search of Bumblebee and partner with the US government at the urging of ignorant Dr. Powell (John Ortiz) to use the country’s technology to track down their rebel.  It quickly becomes a race against time, Bumblebee’s tracking signal is activated in the Decepticons make their way towards him as Charlie tries to understand what Bumblebee is and how to help the mute-but-loving robot.

This stand-alone prequel is also sixth in the Transformers series.  The special effects are breath-taking, and when combined with the film’s humor and solid acting (both physical and voice), it proves itself to be a solid addition to the series.  It provides all the robot action that makes the series so fun without the very inconsistent plots that the most recent movies have struggled with.  Regardless of age, viewers looking for a fun and action-packed movie need look no father than Bumblebee.
