Karla (Halle Berry) is a single mother to 6 year-old Frankie (Sage Correa). Karla doesn’t think anything of taking Frankie to the park when there’s a free afternoon on a beautiful day, but shortly after they arrive, Frankie disappears and Karla frantically searches for her child.  Across the parking lot, she sees a woman dragging a screaming Frankie into an old Mustang, and Karla’s instincts to get her son back kick in.  With no phone to call the police, Karla has no other option to follow the kidnappers and form a rescue plan on the go.  Armed with only her motherly love and minivan, Karla begins the relentless chase to retrieve her son from his kidnappers.  It quickly becomes apparent that the question is not how far can one mother go to save her child from danger, but rather is there anything this mom will not do to save her son?

This thriller is a petal-to-the-metal suspense movie that runs for almost the entire film; there are maybe 10 minutes of introductory story at the open, but then it takes off.  Berry carries the movie in a way that would not be possible for many other actors, because while being the biggest name in the cast, she is also acting alone for many scenes.  She is an average mom laying everything on the line for her child, and that is where the strength of her role comes from.  The dialog and action are beautifully intertwined to create a captivating movie even though a major portion of the movie is just Berry driving a car alone.  The suspense and action of the movie is also varied enough to keep the audience from becoming bored with the film.  When this movie was first announced, many said it seemed like a retelling of The Call or the Taken trilogy, but Kidnap makes a bold stand as its own well-worth-the-watch movie.
