From Game Night.
Annie (Rachel McAdams) and Max (Jason Bateman) share an intense love for playing and winning games of all types. Through their love of games, a game night quickly became a weekly ritual with their closest friends (played by Kylie Bunbury, Lamorne Morris, Billy Magnussen, and Sharon Horgan). Annie and Max dominate almost any game and situation life throws their way, except for when it comes to Max’s older, wealthier brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler); Max has never beat his brother at anything and this lifetime of losing is the cause of some difficulty in their life and marriage. When Brooks randomly shows up, he asks to host the friends’ weekly game night and announces that it will be a murder mystery game night with paid actors, a scripted kidnapping, and a clues. Shortly after Brooks explains the coming events of the night, two men arrive and kidnap Brooks. The three couples begin the search begin competing in the search to find Brooks, laughing and joking the entire time. Shortly into the game, it becomes evident to Max and Annie that there is more going on than meets the eye, because the longer they play the game the more dangerous the night becomes. With only the desire to save Brooks and complete game night Max and Annie take off on an adventure that will have them deal with all kinds of crazy, from avoiding their neighbor (Jesse Plemons) to outrunning a mysterious criminal (Michael C. Hall).
This movie is filled with humor that is often built on one subtle acting or hilarious one-liners but it is spread throughout the entire movie McAdams and Bateman play off each other well, both as an on-screen couple and as the leads for the film. Game Night soared where many other comedies fail: there was more to laugh at than just what was shown/hyped in the trailers; the story was developed enough to provide a strong, supporting backbone for the comedy. Not a comedy to be quickly forgotten, Game Night is full of humor and action to keep viewers entertained, from start to finish.
