“They’ve traveled far and been given many names, but to the ones that know them best, they are simply known as Love and Thunder.”

From Thor: Love and Thunder.

Somewhere in the universe, after his daughter (India Hemsworth) dies while his god does nothing, Gorr (Christian Bale) takes possession of a poisoned Necrosword and vows to kill all the gods of the universe. Since the battle against Thanos, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Korg (Taika Waititi) have been traveling across the universe, fighting evil with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the Guardians of the Galaxy (Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Pom Klementieff). After receiving a distress call from his friend, Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Thor and Korg part ways from the Guardians to find her, and they soon learn that God Butcher’s is heading to New Asgard. On earth, unable to use science to beat her recent cancer diagnosis, Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) decides to answer the call that Thor’s shattered hammer, Mjolnir, seems to be making to her. When she goes to New Asgard to investigate the weapon, it reassembles itself for her and transforms her into the Mighty Thor when she takes hold of it. When Gorr and his monster army launch a sneak attack, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is glad to have both Thors help to defend New Asgard. Unable to quickly kill Thor, Gorr sends his shadow monsters to kidnap all the town’s children before disappearing. With the help of Heimdall’s kidnapped son, Axl (Kieron L. Dyer), Thor is able to learn where the children are being taken, and he sets off with Valkyrie, Jane, and Korg to Omnipotence City to ask for help from Zeus (Russell Crowe) and the other gods that live there. Armed with Zeus’ lightning bolt, the group travels to the Shadow Realm to confront Gorr, but they quickly learn that they walked into a trap, so Gorr could steal the Stormbreaker axe from Thor so Gorr could be the first to reach Eternity and be granted whatever wish he desires: the instant death of all gods. Facing grave injuries and deadly setbacks, Thor must take on Gorr in a final battle if there is any hope of rescuing the children and saving the gods.

The fourth installment in the Thor series manages to capture the grit of Dark World while not losing the fun of Ragnarok. Bale is the perfect villain to compliment Hemsworth and Portman’s heroic roles. The story moves quickly, but Thor: Love and Thunder will easily have fans cheering.
