From Minions: The Rise of Gru.
For his entire life, young Gru (Steve Carell) has dreamed of becoming a verified villain, and joining the ranks of his favorite league of super villains: the Vicious 6. Made up of Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin), Belle Bottom (Taraji P. Henson), Jean Clawed (Jean-Claude Van Damme), Svengeance (Dolph Lundgren), Stronghold (Danny Trejo), and Nun-Chuck (Lucy Lawless), the Vicious 6 holds the world in terror each time they pull off one of their impressive heists. All is not well in the ranks of the Vicious 6, especially when Belle leads a coup and overthrows Knuckles after the group successfully steals the powerful Zodiac Stone. Gru is thrilled when he learns that the Vicious 6 is excepting applications for new members, and he slips off to the interview without his loyal-but-bumbling minions. Unbeknownst to Gru, minions Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto (all voiced by Pierre Coffin) follow him to his interview, where after being laughed off, Gru decides to prove his worth to the Vicious 6 by temporarily stealing the Zodiac Stone from them… which quickly turns out to be a mistake. Even before he can make it back home to his mother (Julie Andrews) and lair, Gru is abducted by Knuckles and taken to San Francisco. Belle and the other Vicious villains are able to track the minions home, and leave a threatening message that Gru must return the stone quickly if he wants to live. However, because the boy’s been kidnapped and Otto lost the stone, the minions set off to both to rescue Gru and get the stone back before it’s too late. Kevin, Stuart, and Bob meet an older woman in Chinatown (Michelle Yeoh), and she agrees to teach the minions martial arts so they can rescue Gru. While the minions race to rescue Gru, he finds an unexpected ally that will shape the young villain’s life forever.
This second Minions film is fifth in the Despicable Me franchise, but it still manages to keep the laughter non-stop. The fun animation keeps the scarier moments from being too intense for young viewers. The film’s real success lies with the impressive cast and family-friendly humor that’ll keep everyone laughing. Minions: The Rise of Gru is a must-watch adventure that features the zany fun that makes the Minions so lovable.
