From Interceptor.
Recently assigned back to America’s Pacific Ocean Interceptor station, SBX-1, Captain JJ Collins (Elsa Pataky) is trying to move beyond her painful past of manipulation by her superior office. While the station’s commanders, Lieutenant Colonel Marshall (Rhys Muldoon) and Captain Welsh (Paul Caesar) are glad to have the disgraced office back, some of the crew are not. Shortly after arriving, SBX-1 is placed on alert and JJ reports to her post in the command center where she meets the station’s on duty analysts Rahu Shah (Mayen Mehta) and Beaver Baker (Aaron Glenane). SBX-1 soon learns that Alaska’s Fort Greely, the only other Interceptor station, has fallen to an unknown force, making the Pacific Ocean station the only defense against a nuclear attack from the West. The danger is further enhanced when the White House learns that sixteen nuclear missiles have been stolen from one of Russia’s bases.
Just after raising the threat level for the station, Kessel (Luke Bracey), a man posing as a janitor, leads a small group of terrorist (including Ingrid Kleinig and Tim Wong) to attack the station, quickly killing everyone at the station except JJ, Shah, and Baker because JJ’s quick move to lock down the command center kept the attackers at bay. Consulting via satellite with the American President (Zoe Carides) and top generals (including Marcus Johnson), JJ tries to find a solution to the catastrophe that will keep millions of Americans alive and safe. When Kessel learns of JJ’s past and her struggles after turning in a sexual predator, he tries to exploit her past trauma to break her down. With only two blast doors separating the terrorist and the control room, JJ fights to hold them off until American reinforcements arrive, but traitors threaten to overtake JJ and destroy America forever.
This action-heavy thriller is fast, intense, and captivating. Pataky is a strong lead, easily filling both the troubled, but smart individual and the risk-it-all hero that the role requires. The fight scenes are impressive, especially in a set that could easily feel claustrophobic without the solid camera work. A few surprising gory moments might be too much for some viewers, but anyone looking for an edge-of-your-seat action thriller need look no further than Interceptor.
