From Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Since helping to save the world from the evil Thanos, Doctor Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has been keeping watch over New York from his sanctum. When a demon arrives, chasing after a girl, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), Strange intervenes, and when Wong (Benedict Wong) arrives to investigate the disturbance, the two magicians are able to slay the monster. However, when America informs them that she’s being hunted because she has the ability to travel between all the universes in the Multiverse, the magicians seek to protect the girl at any cost. Knowing that they’ll need as much magical help as possible to protect America, Strange reaches out to Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) for help, only to soon realize that Wanda is the one hunting America. In her never-ending quest to be reunited with her sons, Wanda has sought help from the Dark Hold book and it has warped her into the Scarlet Witch. Strange warns Wanda not to give in to the Dark Hold, but she refuses to listen and soon attacks Kamertag to capture America. When America uncontrollably opens a portal with her intense fear, Strange dives in with the girl as the only method of escape. Arriving in an unknown universe, they decide to seek out that universe’s Dr. Strange for help, but unfortunately find that he died and Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) guards the city in his place. While Mordo takes Strange to meet with the other members of the Illuminati, that universe’s multiverse protection agency, the Scarlet Witch seeks a way to capture America in the other universe, so she uses a powerful dream walking spell to take control of the Wanda in the same universe. With the Scarlet Witch quickly closing in, Strange must convince the Illuminati and the Christine (Rachel McAdams) of this universe that the multiverse’s only chance of survival is a dangerous plan that the late Dr. Strange prepared for in secret.
This superhero movie is filled with bold action, witty banter, and unbelievable special effects. Cumberbatch impressively manages to bring several very unique versions of his character to life, while managing to be the unshakable guide of the story. Following the events of Wandavision, the Multiverse of Madness has a somewhat darker tone than the first film, but fans of the MCU won’t be able to look away.
