From Wild Mountain Thyme.
Raised on neighboring farms in the Irish countryside, Rosemary Muldoon (Emily Blunt) and Anthony Reilly (Jamie Dornan) have known each other for their entire lives, but they’re still mainly strangers. Despite the fact that Rosemary has been in love with Anthony for her entire life, the shy and reflective Anthony has never made the move to expressed his emotions, despite Rosemary’s parents (Dearbhla Molloy and Don Wycherley) and Anthony’s father, Tony (Christopher Walken), seeing the special connection the two share. After Rosemary’s father dies, Tony decides that he doesn’t want to leave his farm to Anthony unless he’s married, so he reaches out to his American nephew, Adam (John Hamm), to see if he would be interested in the farm. Not wanting to lose the farm, Anthony plans to propose to Rosemary, but loses the ring during the walk to the Muldoon house, and then he loses his courage. When Adam arrives, he tries to impress Rosemary into selling him the small strip of property that separates the Reilly land from the road, but his attempts fail and Tony decides to leave the farm to Anthony after all. While Rosemary tries to wait for Anthony to confess his love, she also tries to figure out what is holding Anthony back, and how she can help him be brave. However, as time drags on and Adam makes plans to return to Ireland to ask Rosemary to marry him, both Anthony and Rosemary are torn between the lives they want and the confusion of how to get there.
Filled with gorgeous scenery and subtly humorous moments, this movie highlights the idyllic life of the Irish countryside. Blunt is captivating throughout the entire film, easily showcasing her fire and heart as the film’s driving force. The gentle back-and-forth style will be unappealing for some, but viewers looking for a sweetly unique story need look no further than Wild Mountain Thyme.
