From Mortal.
When an injury forced him to leave his hiding place in the secluded woods in Norway and head into the small neighboring town, American backpacker Eric Berglund (Nat Wolff) is quickly involved in and agitated by the mysterious death of a local teen. When Eric is arrested in connection with the teen’s death, the local sheriff, Henrik (Per Frisch), asks young psychologist Christine (Iben Akerlie) to try to get Eric to talk before the federal agents arrive to take him into custody. While she is nervous and inexperienced, Christine is able to make a connection with the reclusive Eric, and he begins to guardedly speak with her. Christine doesn’t believe Eric‘s repeated claims that he killed the boy with his uncontrollable powers, but when he becomes upset and sets the interrogation room on fire, she has no choice but to believe his incredible claims. As the dead teen’s father (Per Egil Aske) keeps pressuring Henrik for the chance to confront his son’s killer, the sheriff refuses to allow it, but he is powerless to stop the federal officers, and Hathaway the American agent (Priyanka Bose) leading them, from taking Eric into their custody. During the flight to a more secure facility, Eric gets scared and causes the helicopter to crash, which kills everyone on board except Hathaway. Eric has nowhere else to run, so he goes to find Christine, and she agrees to help Eric return to the destroyed farm where his powers first manifested. While Hathaway and Henrik chase after Eric to capture him again, Christine is amazed to see how his powers and control continue to develop as the two spend more time together.
This dramatic action movie is slow at the beginning, but speeds up as the mystery of the film does. The visual effects are very impressive and carry the film until the story finds its footing. In Mortal, Wolff leads with a captivating mystery all the way to film’s surprising end.
