From Love, Weddings and Other Disasters.
After a skydiving date with her boyfriend goes terribly wrong, not only does amateur wedding planner Jessie (Maggie Grace) suddenly finds herself single, but she also becomes a viral sensation practically overnight after ruining a wedding in the process of breaking up. So, even though she is newly single and somewhat infamous, Jessie is surprised when mayor-hopeful Robert (Dennis Staroselsky) and his fiancé Liz (Caroline Portu) hire her to be the wedding planner for their days-way wedding. Prestigious and uptight wedding planner, Lawrence (Jeremy Irons), isn’t happy when his friends go behind his back to set him up on a date with Sara (Diane Keaton), who is blind and his complete opposite, but he soon finds himself unexplainably attracted to her. Desperate to create the perfect wedding, Jessie reaches out to a local band to play at the reception, and Mack (Diego Boneta) agrees to sing, even though his lovesick bandmate (Jesse McCartney) is uncertain about taking the gig. The city of Boston is a hectic place to plan a wedding, especially when Robert’s brother, Jimmy (Andy Goldenberg), enters a reality show with a stripper (Melinda Hill) to escape her mafia-connected boss (Todd Stashwick), street musicians (including Elle King) constantly pop up to perform, duck tour captain Ritchie (Andrew Bachelor) searches for a mysterious girl he met, and Robert’s campaign manager (Veronica Ferres) tries to turn everything into a political win.
This romantic comedy develops in the same style as Valentine’s Day with multiple storylines coming together for the film’s conclusion. Some of the characters and stories don’t flow well, but Grace brings a sweetness to her scenes, and Irons and Keaton easily steal the show. Love, Weddings, and Other Disasters is not a complex story, but it is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a funny movie with a sweet ending.
