From Encanto.
For the past fifty years, the Madrigal family has been living in a safe, beautiful Colombian valley under the watchful eye of the family matriarch, Abuela Alma (María Cecilia Botero). After fleeing from danger to the valley, a magical candle has never burned out, providing the Madrigals with a magical house and special gifts to each child born into the family, starting with Alma’s children, Julieta (Angie Cepeda), Pepa (Carolina Gaitán), Bruno (John Leguizamo). Pepa married Félix (Mauro Castillo) and soon had Dolores (Adassa), Camilo (Rhenzy Feliz), and Antonio (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), while Julieta married Agustín (Wilmer Valderrama) and had Isabela (Diane Guerrero), Luisa (Jessica Darrow), and Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz). When each child turns five, the family’s blessing grants them a special power and a room perfectly suited to their power… everyone, that is, except Mirabel. Despite being the only Madrigal child to not have a gift, Mirabel loves her home and seeks to help her family in any way she can. However, when their house starts cracking and the candle starts to flicker, Mirabel searches for a way to save the magic, despite Abuela’s doubt of her power-less granddaughter. The more Mirabel tries to help, the more the family’s magic falters, so she decides to look for the long-lost Bruno for answers to a mysterious prophesy. When Mirabel finally finds Bruno, she learns that she is destined to play a central role in the confusing prophesy that will either save or destroy the Madrigal family forever.
Disney’s latest musical adventure is full of music and adventure that will appeal to viewers of all ages. Beatriz carries the story, both in the dialog and songs, but the story’s driving force is the themes of family. While the movie’s conclusion will be slightly unsatisfactory for some, the music, bright animation, and diverse cast all come together to make Encanto a magically, captivating adventure for years to come.
