“Lovely.”

From Fatman.

The young and privileged Billy (Chance Hurstfield) is used to getting his way with everything in his life, especially when it comes to winning his annual school science fair.  However, when Billy comes in second to his fellow classmate, Christine (Ellison Grier Butler), Billy reaches out to a Santa-hating hit man (Walton Goggins) to intimidate the girl into giving up her first place ribbon.  Meanwhile up north, Chris Cringle (Mel Gibson) and his wife, Ruth (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), are struggling with dwindling Christmas spirit, low demand for their factory, and even lower funding as Christmas Eve draws closer and closer.  Billy’s actions land him firmly on the naughty list, and when he finds coal from Santa under his tree on Christmas morning, he hires the assassin again… this time to kill Santa Claus.  Excited for the chance to get back at Santa for a Christmas morning disappointment decades before, the assassin begins hunting for the legendary man and his northern factory.  With no other way to make ends meet, Chris agrees to use his toy factory for a short production contract with the American military.  So as the factory temporarily switches to the production of military equipment under the care of factory manager elf, 7 (Eric Woolfe), and the Army’s project supervisor, Captain Jacobs (Robert Bockstael), the overwhelmed Chris has no idea that an assassin is quickly closing in on his factory-turned-military-facility.  As the assassin tracks down the legendary fat man, he grows in his confidence and hatred, but nothing could have prepared him for his epic battle with Mr. Cringle.

This interesting depiction of one of Christmas’ most iconic characters is surprisingly captivating.  There is a subdued humor that creates the backbone of the story while Gibson and Goggins develop their killer game of cat and mouse.  Unlike anything most viewers will have seen before, this at times bloody, sort-of Christmas movie will not be for everyone, but fans of action comedies will find plenty to enjoy in Fatman.
