“Déjà vu.”

From Copshop.

Despite the quiet shifts that she continuously finds herself, rookie cop Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) constantly tries to be prepared for anything that her job could throw at her. When responding to a post-wedding fight at a nearby casino, Young quickly stops the brawl, but then she is sucker-punched by a bystander named Teddy (Frank Grillo). Young arrests her assaulter and takes the smug, but mysterious Teddy back to the station to process and hold him. The other officers–Huber (Ryan O’Nan), Peña (Jose Pablo Cantillo), Kimble (Robert Walker Branchaud), Barnes (Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau), and Ruby (Christopher Michael Holley)–on the slow overnight shift are basically killing time. While her fellow officers show some mild interest in Teddy and why he punched Young, she dives into trying to figure out his seemingly random motivations. A short time later, when a drunk man (Gerard Butler) nearly crashes into two officers, he is brought to the station to spend the night in the drunk tank, but since he has no identification on him, he is processed as a John Doe until his fingerprint report comes back. When the drunk is placed in the cell across from him, Teddy becomes nervous as he realizes that the John Doe is really a talented assassin named Viddick. When Viddick makes an almost-successful attempt on Teddy’s life, the station is thrown into mild chaos, but Young is able to start answering her many questions from the night. However, the arrival of another, deadlier assassin (Toby Huss) after Teddy at the station forces Young to dive into a night filled with blood, bullets, and betrayal.

This action-packed thriller is full of explosions, witty banter, and impressive stunts. Louder easily creates a hero that’s easy to connect with, but Gerard’s snarky attitude definitely steals the show. While the blood and language won’t be for everyone, Copshop is a fun must-watch for action fans.
