From Freaky.
In the twenty-some years since the Blissfield Butcher teen killing spree, the serial killer has become somewhat of a legend. However, when the Butcher (Vince Vaughn) returns and kicks off a second killing spree at an antique weapons collector’s house, the terror quickly returns. Since her father died last year, seventeen-year-old Millie (Kathryn Newton) has been struggling along with her mom (Katie Finneran) and sister, Charlene (Dana Drori), while also trying to do everything to get accepted at a good college. With the help of her best friends, Josh (Misha Osherovich) and Nyla (Celeste O’Connor), Millie makes it through school each day, which includes mean girl Ryler (Melissa Collazo), cute Booker (Uriah Shelton), and heartless teacher, Mr. Bernardi (Alan Ruck). When her mother fails to pick her up after a football game, Millie soon finds herself all alone when the Butcher shows up and chases her. When the Butcher catches Millie, he stabs her in the shoulder with an antique knife, but as soon as he stabs her, Charlene arrives and he runs. The police search for the Butcher, but when Millie wakes up the next morning in the Butcher’s body, everything terrifies her. Meanwhile, back in Millie’s home, the Butcher wakes up in the teen’s body and realizes that with her face, he could kill countless teens. Millie finds Josh and Nyla for help, and when she finally convinces them that she switched bodies with a murderer, her friends figure out that the knife the Butcher used is cursed and the cause of the body switch. They also soon learn that Millie has 24 hours to stab the Butcher with the cursed knife before the switch becomes permanent. So while the Butcher uses the anonymity of Millie’s body to carry on his killing spree, Millie and her friends must try to get the knife and stop the killer, all while hiding the Butcher’s wanted face, before it becomes eternally too late.
This comedy/horror movie leans more toward blood-soaked humor, with only a few genuine horror moments. Newton’s body-swapped scenes are impressive, but Vaughn’s transformation is brilliantly hilarious. For those that don’t mind the excessive and frequent gore, viewers will find Freaky to be equally thrilling and funny.
