From Sweet Girl.
Ray (Jason Momoa) is a loving family man, and his entire world is centered around his wife, Amanda (Adria Arjona), and daughter, Rachel (Isabela Merced). When Amanda is diagnosed with cancer, the family is shaken, but hopeful because a doctor has gotten her into a trial for the promising generic drug Spero. However, when the major pharmaceutical company BioPrime pays for the cheaper Spero’s halted production so their drug Infirma can succeed, Amanda is left without any treatment options. While the BioPrime CEO, Simon Keeley (Justin Bartha) defends his company’s actions against Congresswoman Morgan (Amy Brenneman) on a national scale, Ray and Rachel are lost in the middle when Amanda dies. Six months later, a reporter (Nelson Franklin) reaches out to Ray, saying he has proof of BioPrime’s corruption. Desperate to make Keeley pay for Amanda’s death, Ray goes to meet the reporter, and Rachel secretly follows him to the meeting. The reporter claims the corruption goes to people scattered all throughout the government, but he’s stabbed by an assassin (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) before he can name anyone. Ray tries to stop the murderer, and Rachel jumps in to help her dad, but soon both are injured and the assassin escapes. After recovering, Ray prepares to confront Keeley, but when things spiral out of control, Ray kills Keeley and his bodyguard in self-defense. Before Keeley dies, he claims the order for the hit came from Vinod Shah (Raza Jaffrey), so Ray grabs Rachel and heads for Canada. FBI agents Meeker (Lex Scott Davis) and Rothman (Michael Raymond-James) are assigned to find Ray, so while fleeing the FBI, Ray must find a way to keep Rachel safe from the assassins chasing them. Worried that her father will go too far to be saved, Rachel secretly reaches out to Meeker in an effort to prove his innocence. Ray sets out to find Shah and get him to confess, but every step toward the truth increases Ray’s struggle between protecting Rachel and exposing the evil.
This action-packed thriller is a fast, impressive, and unexpected story that will easily connect with readers. Momoa and Merced showcase solid acting separately, but both excel when sharing scenes, especially the fight scenes. With a shocking plot twist, Sweet Girl is a must-watch action movie that satisfies on every level.
