“I’ve got it all under control, Pants.”

From Jungle Cruise.

In 1916, the adventure-loving Lily (Emily Blunt) is desperately seeking a chance to study a newly-discovered arrowhead key to the location of the mythical life-saving, curse-breaking Tear of the Moon tree. However, Lily’s unconditional ideas and the fact that she is a woman have kept her out of London’s scientific community, so while her brother McGregor (Jack Whitehall) keeps the researchers busy, Lily sneaks in to steal the arrowhead. Lily is able to get the arrowhead, but her plan hits a snag with the arrival of Prince Joachim (Jesse Plemons), who has also arrived to take possession of the arrowhead. Lily and McGregor narrowly escape with the arrowhead, so Lily convinces her upperclass brother that they need to go search the Amazon for the mythical tree. When they arrive in Brazil, Lily is thrilled to begin their journey and first reaches out to Nilo (Paul Giamatti), a local riverboat mogul, but she decides to instead hire the more-affordable jungle cruise skipper, Frank (Dwayne Johnson). While Lily is excited to be following in the footsteps of the famed-but-doomed conquistador Aguirre (Édgar Ramírez), Frank keeps insisting that her quest is based in pointless fantasy. However, when Joachim follows Lily and McGregor to the Amazon to find the mythical tree, he awakens the cursed Aguirre and his men (Dani Rovira and Quim Gutiérrez) to find the arrowhead and unlock the location of the magical tree. Despite his charm, Lily doesn’t trust Frank completely as he often uses tricks like trained leopards and a tribe of cannibal actors (led by Veronica Falcón). The longer they travel the Amazon, the more dangers they face from the jungle, Joachim, and Aguirre’s cursed soldiers. However, the thrilling secrets that Lily and Frank discover quickly pull them into an adventure of a lifetime.

Inspired by the iconic Disney theme park rides, this comedy-filled adventure is a quick and fun movie unlike any other. Johnson’s humor pairs perfectly with Blunt’s wit, giving the viewers a magnetic pair of characters that easily carry the story. Fans of the attraction will find Jungle Cruise to be a hilarious action-packed adventure that is the perfect summer blockbuster for fans from a wide array of genres.
