From Gunpowder Milkshake.
An assassin for a powerful group called The Firm, Sam’s (Karen Gillan) entire life has been connected to the business of killing. Ever since her assassin mother, Scarlet (Lena Headey), abandoned the teenage Sam, she was left in the care of Nathan (Paul Giamatti), Scarlet’s handler from The Firm, which ultimately led to Sam’s chosen career. After what was supposed to be a quiet job turns into a blood bath, Nathan warns Sam to follow The Firm’s orders more closely on her next mission to avoid facing deadly consequences of her own. Needing clean guns before taking on her next job, Sam goes to the Library to see her mother’s old associates–the librarians–for new weapons. At the library, Sam finds Madeline (Carla Gugino), Florence (Michelle Yeoh), and Anna May (Angela Bassett). When Sam tracks down David (Samuel Anderson), the man that stole from The Firm, she learns that he stole the money to cover the ransom for his young kidnapped daughter, Emily (Chloe Coleman). Unfortunately Sam only learns this important information after she shot him, so Sam decides to hold on to the Firm’s money for a bit so she can use it to rescue Emily in David’s place. Sam is able to find and free Emily, but not before the money is destroyed, making her the target of both The Firm’s muscle (led by Ivan Kaye) and Jim McAlester (Ralph Ineson), the crime boss father of one of the men Sam killed on her last job. Being hunted on all sides and, Sam takes Emily and the two flee to find their last hope: Scarlet. Sam is reluctant to work with her mother, but when McAlester’s army finds them, she’s left with no choice. They run to the library for reinforcements, but Sam is quickly forced to decide how far she’ll go to protect Emily.
This action adventure is very stylized with lots of neon lights, unique scenery, funky soundtrack, and a subtle ironic humor that runs through everything. Gillian’s dry humor and calm attitude are the perfect lead to this fun and bold story. Filled with the unexpected, Gunpowder Milkshake is a must-watch for action fans looking for something memorable.
