From Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
Despite their initially tumultuous relationship, Peter Rabbit (James Corden) has learned to live in peace with Thomas McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) now that Thomas married Bea (Rose Byrne), the rabbits’ human caregiver. The humans and animals on their farm (including Sia, Ewen Leslie, Christian Gazal, and Will Reichelt) have formed a family of sorts, and they’re all thrilled at the success of Bea’s picture book featuring the story of Peter, his cousin Benjamin (Colin Moody), and his sisters Flopsy (Margot Robbie), Mopsy (Elizabeth Debicki), and Cotton-tail (Aimee Horne). When Bea and Thomas receive a request for a meeting with famed publisher Nigel Basil-Jones (David Oyelowo), they take the rabbits into the city to meet with Nigel as he offers Bea a major contract for future books. While Bea and Thomas don’t agree with all of Nigel’s ideas for character re-imaging, they are caught up with his other marketing plans. Peter, however, is hurt that Nigel sees his character only as the troublemaker, so he runs away and runs into an older, gruff thieving rabbit named Barnabas (Lennie James) who knew Peter’s father. Barnabas takes Peter on a food heist, then introduces him to the rest of his crew (Hayley Atwell, Rupert Degas, and Damon Herriman), and Peter feels like he belongs here where he can be the troublemaker everyone thinks he is. When Barnabas sees Peter’s talent for mischief, he shares his plan for the heist of a lifetime: the farmer’s market. Since the plan requires more paws, Peter returns home to get his family and friends to help Barnabas with his huge heist. Thomas is so busy trying to keep Bea from sacrificing her vision to please Nigel that the humans don’t realize what’s happening. While Peter is excited to be free, a turn in Barnabas’ plan quickly places everything he loves in danger and partnering with Thomas is the only way to fix everything.
This sequel to the 2018 family comedy brings back the sweet, hilarious, and mischievous world for the viewers. Cordon and the rest of the voice cast perfectly embody the animal characters, which are impressively animated and inserted into the real world. Peter Rabbit: The Runaway is family-friendly, but manages to leave every viewer laughing.
