“What the *flip*!”

From Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.

Ever since losing his AAA-rated bodyguard license, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) has been desperately trying to get his life back on track, but with his review board date coming up, Michael has been extra nervous. Trying to follow his therapist’s advice by taking a break from body guarding, Michael heads to an Italian resort to de-stress, but that peace is soon shattered when Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek) shows up, dragging Michael into rescuing her hitman husband, Darius (Samuel L. Jackson), from the mob. Michael is very resistant to helping Darius, both because of his sabbatical from violence and the fact that Darius is responsible for Michael’s lost bodyguard status. However, Michael eventually agrees to help–without violence–and is quickly drawn into crazy trouble when Sonia and Darius kill an Interpol informant. While Interpol agent O’Neill (Frank Grillo) has been desperately trying to get ahead of a terrorist attack that he’s sure is coming, his case is almost trashed by his supervisor (Caroline Goodall) until he secretly forces Darius, Sonia, and Michael to take the place of the murdered at a scheduled meet. Michael quickly comes to realize that nothing is ever easy when Sonia and Darius are involved, and the trio soon finds themselves the target of Greek millionaire, Aristotle Papadopolous (Antonio Banderas), who is planning on crippling all of Europe’s infrastructure to protect Greece. While running across Europe, trying to stay away from Aristotle’s award-winning bodyguard (Tom Hopper) and hired assassin (Kristofer Kamiyasu), Michael reaches out to his bodyguard legend step-father (Morgan Freeman) for help. However, it soon becomes obvious that things are not all as the appear and Michael’s only way to stay alive and get his AAA status back is to work together with Darius and Sonia… if they don’t kill him first.

The sequel to the 2017 hit, this movie again uses action and humor to keep viewers engaged from start to finish. Hayek and Jackson have much larger roles in this film, but Reynolds is the true star of the film with his constant struggle with confidence and humor. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard might not connect with everyone, but fans of the lead actors or the first film will find the laughter non-stop.
