“I’ve got a few ideas.”

From Cruella.

As a child, Estella’s (Tipper Seifert-Cleveland) fashion genius and half-black half-white hair made her the target of bullies, and much to the disma of her mother, Catherine (Emily Beecham), Estella fought back with the mean-spirited personality that she called Cruella.  After being expelled from school, Catherine and Estella pack up for London, stopping at a large estate so Catherine can meet a friend.  After accidentally causing a scene at a party, Estella witnesses her mother falling over a cliff.  The young girl flees to London where she’s taken in by fellow orphans, Jasper (Ziggy Gardner) and Horace (Joseph MacDonald).  Ten years later, Estella (Emma Stone), Jasper (Joel Fry), and Horace (Paul Walter Hauser) are talented thieves making a living through pickpocketing and various cons.  However, knowing that Estella dreams of working at a store that carries the renowned Baroness fashion line, Jasper gets her a job there… and while Estella’s job ends terribly, it does make the Baroness (Emma Thompson) notice and hire Estella.  Things finally seem to be going well for Estella as she’s able to design, and the Baroness—who heartlessly controls everyone, including her assistant (Andrew Leung), her butler (Mark Strong), and lawyer Roger (Kayvan Novak)—but is often impressed with Estella’s work.  But when Estella learns that the Baroness is the woman truly responsible for her mother’s death, Estella lets Cruella out to plan her revenge.  With the help of Jasper, Horace, the fashion-loving Artie (John McCrea), and reporter Anita (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Cruella begins to crash all of the Baroness’ appearances, releases, and shows, stealing the publicity for Cruella’s designs instead.  As Cruella carries out her plan, her notoriety in the fashion world soars, making her the sole object of the Baroness’ wrath.  Cruella’s plans end in disaster, but when Estella learns the truth of her painful past, she plans one last job against the Baroness that will place everything on the line.

This Disney villain origin story takes one of film’s most iconic baddies and creates a captivating new story.  Stone completely disappears into her role, easily creating a character that viewers can cheer for, despite the evil she one day will become.  Full of impressive heists, fashion, and twists, Cruella is a must-watch for Disney fans or anyone looking for a humorous-but-gritty antihero adventure.
