From Those Who Wish Me Dead.
After losing a firefighter and three young civilians to a wildfire that shifted dangerously, wildfire firefighter Hannah (Angelina Jolie) is struggling to leave the horrors of that day behind. Assigned to a fire tower in the middle of the Montana wilderness for the summer, Hannah is ready for the solitude the position requires. However, when Owen (Jake Weber) learns that the district attorney’s family was killed in a gas explosion, the terrified father takes his son, Connor (Finn Little), and flees, knowing the DA’s death was not accidental and actually related to a corruption case that Owen informed on. With nowhere else to go, Owen and Connor travel to Montana to stay with Connor’s pregnant aunt, Allison (Medina Senghore), and sheriff deputy uncle, Ethan (Jon Bernthal). Just before they reach their destination, the men (Aiden Gillen and Nicholas Hoult) that have been tasked with killing them and the case, run Owen off the road. Owen gives Connor a flash drive with evidence and tells the boy to run and hide just before being killed by the assassins. Hannah finds Connor in the woods, so she takes him back to the tower to radio for help, but Hannah’s desolate position proves dangerous after lightning fried all the charging radios and electronics, leaving no way to contact help. In order to distract local authorities, the assassins start a wildfire before hunting for Connor. With the killers drawing closer, Hannah and Connor have no choice but to flee towards the fire with the hope of escaping before the entire area is consumed by flames. As the fire quickly grows far out of control, Hannah will have to face her past to save Connor from the evil that is closing in on all sides.
Inspired by the Michael Koryta novel of the same name, this dramatic survival thriller will have viewers on the edge of the seats. Jolie brings a toughness to her role that feels forced in the beginning, but genuine by the film’s end. While it first develops a bit slowly, Those Who Wish Me Dead still manages to create a captivating and unforgettable story.
