From Yes Day.
When they were younger, Allison (Jennifer Garner) and Carlos (Édgar Ramírez) were adventurous, fun, and willing to give any wild activity a try, but that lifestyle quickly disappeared after they got married and had kids. Now Allison and Carlos spend their days telling Katie (Jenna Ortega), Nando (Julian Lerner), and Ellie (Everly Carganilla) that they can’t do the fun-but-dangerous things they always want to do. Because Carlos spends his time at work telling coworkers they must be less dangerous, he often leaves Allison to be the mean parent with the kids. When a parent-teacher conference highlights how much the children hate Allison constantly telling them no, the school guidance counselor (Nat Faxon) suggests that the frazzled parents give their kids a Yes Day: twenty-four hours where parents have to agree to everything their kids request. Allison is against the idea until Katie bets her that if the fun-killing mom can’t make it through Yes Day, the teen can go to a H.E.R. (as herself) concert with her friend (Megan Stott). The parents finally agree, and the entire family begins preparing for their Yes Day. When the special day arrives, Allison and Carlos say “yes” to their kids’ requests, which comes with lots craziness, including an ice cream breakfast, a giant game of kablowey, an ambulance ride (with Fortune Feimster), a manhunt with a young cop (Arturo Castro), and a bigger-than-life final event. While the Yes Day starts as a fun day for every member of the Carlos family, things don’t quite go as planned, and they all will have to try to grow closer through the challenges.
Inspired by the children’s book of the same name, this family comedy has something for everyone. The cast, both adults and children, bring a genuine versatility to their roles, especially when faced with a wide variety of situations. The story of Yes Day manages to teach some important, heartfelt life lessons, while the clean humor will keep viewers of all ages laughing from start to finish.
