Doug Rawlins (Jim Caviezel) is a popular Christian blogger whose work has garnered him an invitation to speak at a conference about faith in Cairo, much to the dismay of his skeptical wife, Liz (Claudia Karvan). After recently learning that his devout Muslim coworker, Javid (Aly Kassem) was not at all what he appeared to be, Doug is deeply dismayed, which somewhat contributes to him openly sharing his Christian faith during his television interview in Egypt, totally ignoring Liz’s warning of the danger. Ramzi (Hal Ozsan) and several others Hezbollah members kidnap Doug because of the statements he made on television, and take hold him in Lebanon, and then eventually in Iran. After not being able to help Doug through her job at the State Department, Liz decides to go to Iran and beg for Doug’s life. When she arrives in Iran, Liz is publicly greeted by political leader Tehrani (Bijan Daneshmand), who quickly announces he is going to put Doug on trial for being a spy, but she also meets two international journalists, Maria (Isabelle Adriani) and Pierre (Stelio Savante), who don’t believe the baseless accusations. A group of Iranian Christians (led by Leila Arabi) also finds Liz to tell her that Doug is being held in a political prison until he publicly confesses to being a spy. Even though Liz found Doug, Tehrani holds a mock trial that finds Doug guilty, so now Liz must find a way to rescue her innocent husband before he is executed for his fictitious crimes.

Inspired by real events, this thriller highlights one man’s dedication to the truth and his wife’s refusal to give up. The scenery is gorgeous, the drama is heartbreaking, but lead Caviezel shines in a role that is a truly mesmerizing story. While it is a faith-based story, some might find the language and gore unexpected, however Infidel offers viewers a realistic, edge-of-the-seat story from start to finish.
