“That’s the bomb with the real power to change the world.”

From Tenet.

After an operation goes south in Kiev, a CIA operative (John David Washington) tries to kill himself instead of giving his captors any information.  After being rescued, the operative’s superiors (Martin Donovan) tells him that now that the world thinks he’s dead, he is being tasked with saving the world through a mysterious code word: tenet.  The operative’s first stop is a scientist (Clémence Poésy) who shows him some ammunition that goes backwards in time, though thye don’t know how it happens, it could easily pose a danger to the world.  The operative heads to India to track down arms dealer that he believes sold the reversed, inverted ammunition, but the operative needs help getting into dealer’s compound and Neil (Robert Pattinson) is sent to help.  When the operative and Neil get inside dealer’s house, his wife, Priya (Dimple Kapadia) gives the operative information on tenet, and sends him to see British intelligence agent Crosby (Michael Caine).  Crosby tells the operative that the man trading in inverted tech and weapons is Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh), so the operative develops a plan to use Sator’s wife, Katherine (Elizabeth Debicki) to get to the criminal.  While the operative is able to get to Katherine, she is unable to help because her husband has blackmailed her into fearful submission.  The blackmail Sator has over Katherine is being held at the Oslo airport, so Neil reaches out to Mahir (Himesh Patel) to steal Katherine’s blackmail in exchange for a meeting with her husband.  At Oslo, the operative finds a machine that can instantly invert people and items or return them to the forward timeline, and he desperately inserts himself in Sator’s life to discover what he’s doing.  Sator somehow seems to know the operative’s ever move, especially when he steals the last part of earth-ending machine from the operative, so Neil, Katherine, and the operative inverse themselves to stop Sator from destroying the world before it’s too late.

Christopher Nolan’s latest mind-bending thriller is a unique experience, to say the least. Washington and Pattinson are interesting leads through the amazing effects, both forward and in reverse, which allows for an interesting watch. Even though the story line is difficult to follow without actively watching, Tenet is an amazing movie experience unlike any other.
