“Fairies…”

From Godmothered.

Eleanor (Jillian Bell) is a young fairy godmother in training at godmother school in the magical world known as the Motherland. The godmother student learns from her roommate, Agnes (June Squibb), and the school’s headmistress, Moira (Jane Curtin), that because people have stopped believing in magic and happily-ever-after, the school is going to close. The godmother in training searches for any request for a fairy godmother that she can answer to save the school, and Eleanor is thrilled to find a letter from a 10-year-old girl named Mackenzie, so she sneaks through a portal to find the girl in need. However, when Eleanor locates her secret assignment, she finds an unhappy, widowed adult Mackenzie (Isla Fisher) who is struggling to balance her work at a floundering news station with her life at home with daughters Jane (Jillian Spaeder) and Mia (Willa Skye). It takes Eleanor a while to convince Mackenzie that she really is her fairy godmother, but Eleanor’s inexperience as a godmother leads to quite a few hilarious mistakes. Mackenzie takes Eleanor to work to keep an eye on her only to find out that Mackenzie’s boss (Utkarsh Ambudkar) has assigned her to cover the approaching snow storm with camerawoman Duff (Artemis Pebdani) and kind reporter Hugh Prince (Santiago Cabrera). Eleanor’s heart and dedication quickly make a positive impact on Mackenzie, her daughters, and even her sister (Mary Elizabeth Ellis)… even when things don’t go according to plan. When Eleanor learns that her time to safely return to Motherland is running out, the fairy risks it all to protect both her future and Mackenzie’s happy ending.

This Christmas comedy is filled with laughter and hear that will make it an instant classic for viewers of all ages. Bell is perfect in her portrayal of the childlike, but slightly-ditzy fairy while Fisher balances out the film’s humor with quick wit. Very well executed and filled with genuine humor, Godmothered is a comedy the entire family can enjoy.
