“Now I gotta figure out how to sell this sh*t.”

From Force of Nature.

As a major hurricane bears down on San Juan, Puerto Rico, apathetic police officer Cardillo (Emile Hirsch) has been tasked with clearing a portion of the city with his new rookie partner, Officer Peña (Stephanie Cayo). However, what should have been a quick and simple assignment, quickly morphs into a dangerous and unprecedented mess when they allow a man (William Catlett) they’re evacuating to run home to his apartment building to feed his pet before the storm hits, and they discover that there are several other residents refusing to leave. Cardillo and Peña meet a young doctor Troy (Kate Bosworth) who is trying to convince her sick, retired detective father Ray (Mel Gibson) to leave. While Cardillo and Troy go to evacuate an elderly tenant, Paul (Jorge Luis Ramos), Peña tries to convince Ray to leave, as well. While trying to evacuate the other tenant, Cardillo witnesses a man (David Zayas) kill the superintendent of the building so he and his crew (Blas Sien Diaz, Joksan Ramos, Xavier Reyes, and Sebastian Vázquez) can gain entrance. Using the cover of the impending storm, the heavily-armed crew has come to steal priceless art from Paul and escape into the storm as millionaires. As the crew starts chasing down Cardillo to keep him from alerting the rest of the police force, the hurricane only adds to the deadly game of cat and mouse. When Ray and Peña realize that the apartment building is under attack, the veteran cop and the rookie begin to search for Cardillo and Troy, who are trying to get themselves to safety. As the storm bulls in intensity, events unfold for all involved to create a high stakes push to survive this nightmare.

This action-packed thriller has some definite moments of excitement, especially for those looking for a quick-moving movie. Gibson is the perfect pick for his role, as his gruffness is somewhat endearing. There are several plot holes spread throughout the story, but overall, Force of Nature meets all the requirements for action-loving viewers.
