“It’s the violence she committed that worries me.”

From Becky.

Lately, life has been far from easy for thirteen-year-old unpopular, outsider Becky (Lulu Wilson) ever since her mom died of cancer. Now, on top of everything, Becky learns that her dad, Jeff (Joel McHale), has invited his new girlfriend, Kayla (Amanda Brugel), her young son, Ty (Isaiah Rockcliffe) to spend the weekend with them at their secluded lake house. When a prisoner named Dominick (Kevin James) escapes from prison with three other violent inmates Cole (Ryan McDonald), Hammond (James McDougall), and Apex (Robert Maillet), Jeff and the sulking Becky hardly pay attention to the news. However, when Dominick and his crew show up at their lake house looking for a key that Dominick stashed in the basement before being imprisoned, they take Jeff, Kayla, and Ty hostage. That leaves only Becky, who was hiding away from Kayla in her tree fort when the inmates showed up, to try to get Dominick his key when she realizes that everyone else is in trouble. When Dominick shoots her dad, Becky takes off into the woods with the key out of fear, but her emotions quickly turn to anger. Angry at all that she’s lost and had to endure in the past year, Becky decides to go on a warpath, armed with her knowledge of the woods, her faithful dog, and whatever she can turn into a weapon. While Dominick initially underestimates the young girl running through the woods, as Becky turns from being hunted to becoming the hunter, he and his crew quickly finds themselves fighting an unexpectedly formidable and deadly foe.

The soundtrack is eerie and pulse-pounding which couples well with the unique camera work. Incredibly violent, this film is not for viewers that do not like blood, even though it somehow manages to keep an almost fun attitude throughout the film. However, those seeking a thriller with lots of blood and action, need look no further than Becky.
