From Clouds.
While dealing with cancer and chemo treatments has been terrible, high schooler Zach Sobiech (Fin Argus) has been able to brave his way through it with laughter, music, and his lifelong best friend, Sammy (Sabrina Carpenter). With Sammy’s encouragement, Zach finally asks his longtime crush Amy (Madison Iseman) on a date, and everything finally seems to be looking up for Zach. However, when a scan shows an untreatable progression of Zach’s cancer, his world slams to a stop as he’s given only a few months to live. Desperate for a miracle, Zach’s mother, Laura (Neve Campbell), convinces his dad, Rob (Tom Everett Scott), that they should take Zach and his siblings Sam (Dylan Everett), Alli (Vivien Endicott Douglas) and Grace (Summer H. Howell) on one last family vacation to Lourdes, France. When the family returns from their trip, Zach decides that he wants to write more music and he asks Sammy to write and record an album with him. Sammy agrees, and after some late night confessions, the two write a song and post it on YouTube, where it quickly goes viral. While he struggles with his success from the video and his mortality, Zach’s teacher, Mr. Weaver (Lil Rel Howery), pushes him to find a way to live his life to the fullest. Zach and Sammy are soon signed to a record company as the band A Firm Handshake and their first song “Clouds” becomes a worldwide hit. As the song reaches more and more people, Zach’s cancer grows, leaving him struggling to make the most of every day while helping his friends and family to do the same.
Based on the real life story of Sobiech and his music, this movie is an inspiring, yet somber film. The music used throughout the film, especially the title track, is powerful, easily bringing words to the wide range of emotions experienced by the characters, especially the charming Argus. While Clouds will require some tissues, it is also a touching movie that will stay with viewers long after the credits roll.
