From The Secret: Dare to Dream.
As a tropical storm bears down on Louisiana, overworked widow Miranda Wells (Katie Holmes) is trying to find a way to cover all the bills while taking care of her three kids, Missy (Sarah Hoffmeister), Greg (Aidan Pierce Brennan), and Bessie (Chloe Lee). A mysterious professor named Bray Johnson (Josh Lucas) shows up with an envelope to give to Miranda, but when Greg tells him she isn’t home he plans to come back later. However, when a distracted Miranda lightly rear ends Bray’s car, the kind stranger finds himself drawn into her life. When the storm finally hits and a tree comes through the kitchen roof, Miranda has no idea what to do next, but when Bray shows up to see if Miranda found the envelope he left in the mailbox, he offers to help by fixing the gaping hole in the roof. Bray works diligently to fix the roof, but since the envelope blew away in the storm, he struggles to find a way to tell Miranda about the envelope’s mysterious contents. While Miranda tries to deal with her disapproving mother-in-law’s (Celia Weston) constant pressure to sell her house, her wealthy, but uninvolved boyfriend, Tucker (Jerry O’Connell), proposes because he’s worried about Bray’s sudden involvement with Miranda and her family. Bray’s positive attitude is often completely opposite of Miranda’s realist expectations, but the more time he spends with the family, the clearer it becomes that it might just be what Miranda and her kids need.
