From The Lovebirds.
Four years after a picture perfect romance began, Jibran (Kumail Nanjiani) and Leilani (Issa Rae) now spend most of their time bickering. On the way to a dinner party, the two have an especially nasty fight and decide to end their relationship, but that is quickly forgotten when they hit a man on bike (Nicholas X. Parsons). Terrified and refusing to wait for an ambulance, the bicyclist takes off moments before a second man (Paul Sparks) commandeers their car, claiming to be a cop in pursuit of the bicyclist. While Jibran and Leilani are willing to help the cop, when he chases down then repeatedly runs over the bicyclist, the couple realizes that they let a murder drive their car. After killing the bicyclist, the second man runs away, leaving Jibran and Leilani with both the dead man and the murder vehicle. Terrified that nobody will believe they are innocent, the two run away to hide, but then decide that the only way to clear their names is to find the mysterious killer on their own. Using the bicyclist’s dropped phone, they decide to go to an appointment he had with a woman to see if she knows who the killer is. Leilani and Jibran are able to find the woman, Edie (Anna Camp), but when she and her husband, Brett (Kyle Bornheimer), kidnap them, everything gets crazier. The ex-couple quickly learn that the bicyclist was blackmailing Brett and now Jibran and Leilani are not only trying to prove their innocence to the police but also their non-involvement to their captors. Jibran and Leilani are able to escape, but with no other options and twice the danger, they decide to search for the blackmail photos and the killer to save themselves.
This romantic comedy is unique in its inclusion of the mystery and action. Nanjiani and Rae are charmingly funny alone, but their shared scenes are truly hilarious. The Lovebirds will have viewers laughing from start to finish, and is a must-watch comedy.
