From Unhinged.
While fighting through a nasty divorce and watching her life fall apart almost everywhere, the often tardy Rachel (Caren Pistorius) currently finds herself rushing to get her son Kyle (Gabriel Bateman) to school on time amid terrible traffic. When Rachel loses a big client, her day goes from bad to worse, so it pushes her to lash out by honking at the driver of a truck stopped at a green light ahead of her. When the driver of the truck (Russell Crowe) pulls up next to her at the next light and demands an apology, Rachel refuses to apologize which pushes the volatile, drug addict over the edge of barely-civilized to violently obsessive. When the light changes, Rachel drives off, but the man chases after them, trying to force Rachel into an accident. After Rachel drops Kyle off at school, the man and truck show up again when she stops at a gas station. The driver of the truck steals Rachel’s phone and tries to run her off the road again before she is able to get away and hide on a side street. While Rachel is able to get away to temporary safety, the unstable man uses her phone to learn all about her life, appointments, finances, and relationships. In an effort to torture Rachel and make her pay for rudely slighting him, the driver begins to find and attack the people in her life starting with her lawyer Andy (Jimmi Simpson), and then moving to her brother, Freddie (Austin P. McKenzie) and his fiancĂ©, Mary (Juliene Joyner). When the man threatens Kyle’s life, Rachel gets her son from school and tries to flee, but they seem unable to escape the crazed killer, even with help from police and helpful strangers, so Rachel devises a dangerous, last-chance plan to stop the man once and for all.
Despite the small cast and the majorly-in-a-car sets, this thriller packs a punch that will have viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Crowe captivates as the enraged pursuer, while Pistorius allows desperation to transform her character. The truly terrifying aspect comes from the realization that the story is incredibly possible, which makes Unhinged an unexpected can’t-look-away must-watch.
