From Magic Camp.
Lost after the death of his father, Theo (Nathaniel Logan McIntyre) is torn between his love of card magic that reminds him of his dad and the stage fright he gets wherever he performs in front of anyone. When Theo receives an invitation to attend this year’s Institute of Magic’s summer camp, his mom (Rochelle Aytes) pushes him to attend, so he agrees to give it a shot. Even though he gained young success as a magician, Andy Duckerman (Adam DeVine) has long since left magic behind to be a cab driver. However, when the Institute’s founder, Roy (Jeffrey Tambor), tells him that he needs a counselor for a cabin at summer camp and that Andy’s arch nemesis, the world famous magician, Kristina Darkwood (Gillian Jacobs), will also be a competing counselor, Andy agrees. Still crushed from losing to Darkwood all those years ago, Andy is thrilled to finally have an opportunity to beat her at the end-of-camp competition, but then he meets his cabin of newbies: bunny-loving Ruth (Isabella Crovetti), child of a magic legend Judd (Josie Totah), math wiz Nathan (Cole Sand), the seriously dark Vera (Isabella Alvarez), and Theo. Since none of his campers have any experience with magic, Andy is ready to quit, but after seeing Theo’s skill with cards, he decides to give them all one more chance; then as he really tries teaching the campers, Andy is able to help each kid connect with the seven types of magic. While Theo meets some nice campers like Janelle (Bianca Grava), he also faces off against the camp bully, Vic (Hayden Crawford), as he fights to overcome his stage fright. As Andy tries to train the next generation of magicians, this group of young ragtag magicians begins to discover just how powerful the magic of friendship really is.
This family comedy is an unexpectedly enjoyable adventure. McIntyre leads a young cast that is captivating to watch perform, and DeVine is hilarious with his dry humor and quick wit. Filled with comedy that is genuine and hilarious, viewers of all ages will find Magic Camp to be a hilarious pick for the next movie night!
