From Project Power.
When a drug called Power hits the streets of New Orleans, the city is quickly overwhelmed by the dangerous effects of the pill which gives the user five minutes of unexpected, unlimited, and often uncontrollable power. While each user is guaranteed temporary power, it manifests itself in a variety of different ways, which has made it the dangerous drug of choice for the entire city. Fighting to stop the violence sweeping through the city, New Orleans police officer Frank Shaver (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) buys Power from a young dealer named Robin (Dominique Fishback) so he can have a chance of catching those using the pill to commit crimes. Arriving in New Orleans, Art (Jamie Foxx) is desperately searching for the source of Power which leads him to a mid-level Power dealer, Newt (Machine Gun Kelly). When Newt overdoses trying to escape, all Art can do is try to track down another dealer in Newt’s phone, which just so happens to be Newt’s cousin, Robin. Catching her to get information, Art quickly learns that Robin only sold product from Newt to help her sick mother (Andrene Ward-Hammond), but he is able to convince Robin to help find the people responsible for taking his daughter, Tracy (Kyanna Simone Simpson) to develop Power. When Frank’s Captain (Courtney B. Vance) finds out that he uses Power to catch the unstoppable criminals, he tells Frank that he needs to find Art and save Robin. Searching the city for a Power dealer named Biggie (Rodrigo Santoro), Art and Robin find themselves drawn deeper into the deadly test city that New Orleans has become. When Frank and Art meet, the two are unwilling to trust each other until Robin convinces them that they need to all work together to find the two people (Amy Landecker and Tait Fletcher) trying to use Tracy and Power to take over the world.
This sci-fi movie is filled with action from start to finish, and when coupled with the amazing visual effects, makes for a truly captivating story. Foxx and Fishback really play well off each other when sharing scenes, and Gordon-Levitt brings a surprising humor to his determined cop role. The unique storyline and crazy action makes Project Power a definite must-watch.
