All things seem normal for pilot Tobias Ellis (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as he prepare for the flight. Tobias is working the European 162 flight with captain, Michael (Carlo Kitzlinger), flight attendant, Nathalie (Aurelie Thepaut), and flight attendant Gokçe (Aylin Tezel), who also happens to be Tobias’ girlfriend. Takeoff and the first portion of the flight go as expected, but when Nathalie enters the cockpit to bring Michael and Tobias food when they’ve reached cruising altitude, it quickly becomes a terror. When a hijacker named Kenan (Murathan Muslu) pushes into the cockpit after the flight attendant, he kills Michael before Tobias is able to subdue the terrorist and re-secure the cockpit. Tobias becomes aware that three of the passengers outside the cockpit, Daniel (Paul Wollin), Vedat (Omid Memar), and Kalkan (Passar Hariky), are hijackers, as well. The hijackers try to force their way inside, but when that doesn’t work, they begin threatening the passengers. Tormented with the choice of who to save, Tobias continues to follow the directions from flight control, which has directed him to perform an emergency landing in Hannover. However, since Tobias is outnumbered and injured, Vedat is able to get into the cockpit, but the young terrorist’s will to live pushes him to break from the mission and help Tobias land the plane through the storm. Once on the ground, Tobias again finds his life in grave danger as Vedat struggles for control of the situation and Tobias faces a dark internal struggle that will change his life forever.
This thriller has its slower moments, but the story will keep viewers riveted to the screen until the very end. Almost all of the film takes place in the cockpit or through a small monitor displaying the cabin, which adds greatly to the suspense, as well as the realistic possibility of it all. Gordon-Levitt leads well for a film set on such a limited set. 7500 will be too much for some viewers, but most will find the story compelling and engaging.
