“Amen.”

From Greyhound.

In World War II, many Allied ships have fallen prey to German U-boats while crossing the dangerous, unprotected waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  In an attempt to protect the men and cargo being transported across the ocean to America’s allies, ships travel in convoys watched over by several light warships.  One such warship protecting one 1942 convoy is Greyhound, which is commanded by Captain Ernie Krause (Tom Hanks).  Leaving behind the safety of home and the love of his life (Elisabeth Shue), Ernie leads a convoy through a deadly section of the Atlantic where air support is impossible and U-boats hunt freely.  Under Ernie’s leadership, Greyhound is able to destroy a German U-boat, but the victory is short lived as the convoy becomes surrounded by a German wolfpack of submarines from every side.  As night, and the impending German attack, draws closer, Greyhound and the other ships in the convoy try to prepare for the deadly darkness that awaits them.  While Ernie’s faith and subdued nature sometimes causes his crew (including Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, Tom Brittney, Karl Glusman, Lee Norris, Grayson Russell, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Devin Druid) to initially question his actions, his wisdom, experience, and heart prove to be his greatest strengths.  As the German U-boats strategically attack both the four warships and the thirty-seven ships they are trying to protect, Greyhound must also manage to help the convoy survive rough waters, freezing temperatures, dwindling ammunition, and malfunctioning equipment.  In a last-ditch effort to bring the convoy to the safety of air support, Ernie directs the convoy to risk everything for a faster straight course ahead, but the battle to safety will push the entire crew beyond anything they’ve experienced before.

This thrilling war epic is based on the real life events that took place during a terrifying few days in February 1942.  The vastness of the ocean proves to be the most terrifying antagonist, which Hanks rises to face with an endearing dedication.  A fast-moving and thrilling story that highlights the bravery and sacrifice of the men who risked it all, Greyhound will keep viewers riveted to to screen from start to finish for a truly powerful story.
