Noelle Kringle (Anna Kendrick) and older brother Nick (Bill Hader) are the children of Santa (Jay Brazeau) and Mrs. Claus (Julie Hagerty).  Now that their father has died, Nick is next in line to be Santa and Mrs. Claus, Noelle, and their childhood nanny elf Polly (Shirley MacLaine) all try to help Nick prepare for his first fast-approaching Christmas Eve.  However, despite their best efforts, Nick is freaking out over his responsibilities and lack of magical abilities that the job requires, so Noelle tells him he should go away for the weekend to relax, but then Nick doesn’t come back.  Since Nick is missing, their nerdy, tech-loving Cousin Gabe (Billy Eichner) is appointed Santa and he plans to change the Christmas process forever.  The elves (including Ron Funches and Michael Gross) all blame Noelle, but after figuring out that Nick’s in Phoenix, Arizona, she and Polly head off to bring Nick back before Gabe ruins Christmas.  After crashing in a shopping plaza, they leave the reindeer with the mall director (Diana Maria Riva) and Noelle hires private investigator Jake (Kingsley Ben-Adir) to find Nick.  As Noelle searches for Nick in the last few days before Christmas, she begins to realize that she can help Jake, his son Alex (Maceo Smedley), and the people of Arizona focus on the seemingly-forgotten joy of Christmas.  However, finding Nick becomes only part of the problem as he refuses to return to the North Pole and Noelle is left scrambling to find a way to save Christmas before Gabe’s tech-centered updates ruin it forever.

This sweet and funny holiday adventure presents a new take on the legend of Santa and life at the North Pole.  The back-and-forths between Hader and Kendrick are fun; but Kendrick really shines as she carries the lead role in a perfect balance between ditsy innocence and sweetly, determined.  Filled with references to various Christmas songs and phrases Noelle is a fun Christmas adventure for viewers of all ages.
