“Bye.”

From Ford v Ferrari.

After being humiliated by Ferrari (Remo Girone), Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) and his VP, Leo Beebe (Josh Lucas), allow Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) to follow up his idea to contract Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon), one of the only Americans to ever win the 24-hour Le Mans race in France, to develop a race car to beat the Italian racing powerhouse.  Shelby, creator of the Shelby Cobra, is initially given free reign with his budget, designs, mechanics, and drivers, but his selection of Ken Miles (Christian Bale) is where Shelby and the Ford executives begin to disagree.  Miles is a talented mechanic and driver, but his uncontrollable temper and attitude cause him to be at odds with everyone in his life, except his wife (Caitriona Balfe) and son (Noah Jupe).  While Miles is allowed to help design and test the GT40 with Shelby and his team (including Ray McKinnon and Jack McMullen), Beebe insists that Miles not drive at Le Mans and the company pushes Shelby to comply.  However, when Ford’s performance in the race is another embarrassment, Henry Ford gives Shelby complete control over the betterment of the GT40 as well as the racing team, so Shelby convinces Miles to return and race.  After months of testing and training, Shelby and Miles finally create a race car that can win, so they enter the 1966 race at Le Mans.  Miles is made the lead driver for one of Ford’s three cars and it quickly becomes the race of a lifetime as both Miles and Shelby fight through weather, mechanics, fatigue, and even management issues from the spiteful Beebe.  What takes place is a desperate fight to beat Ferrari and make a history-shaking name for Ford.

This inspired-by-true-life story is a thrilling ride, especially the scenes that take place during the race.  Damon and Bale create unique, captivating performances, but when the two share scenes, their interactions are brilliant.  It is a fascinating, moving, and inspiring story so that even viewers with no knowledge of racing will find Ford v Ferrari to be a must-watch story.
