“Killin’ it, killin’ it!”

Firefighters that work for California’s Department of Forestry are known as fire jumpers, and no fire jumper is better known for his amazing skill and dedication is Jake Carson (John Cena).  His no-nonsense attitude and his father’s legendary service make Jake an amazing firefighter, but not at all good with interacting with the people he rescues, especially children.  He runs a tight ship with the other smoke jumpers under his command: Mark (Keegan-Michael Key), Rodrigo (John Leguizamo), and Ax (Tyler Mane)  When Commander Richards (Dennis Haysbert) announces that he will be retiring from his position of Division Chief, Jake gets the opportunity to apply for his dream job and only has to fill out the application by the end of the weekend to secure an interview.  When a routine rescue of siblings Brynn (Brianna Hildebrand), Will (Christian Convery), and Zoey (Finley Rose Slater) results in Jake and the other smoke jumpers having to take care of the kids until their parents can arrive, things in the serious firehouse quickly go down in flames.  And on top of all the craziness that the kids have brought into Jake’s firehouse, he also has to find a way to work with his crush, scientist Dr. Hicks (Judy Greer), whose research station neighbors the firehouse.  As Jake stumbles his way through watching the children, trying to fill out his application, and getting the firehouse ready for his interview, the three wild kids manage to help Jake and his fellow firefighters understand the importance of family.

This family comedy manages to create a story that is fun for viewers of all ages; while kids will enjoy the craziness that takes place throughout the film, adults will enjoy the humor that Cena, Leguizamo, and Key bring through their quick, witty dialog.  The action is big in a few scenes, but not in a way that will scare young viewers.  With comedy that is clean for all ages, Playing with Fire is the perfect pick for family movie night.
