“I’m serious.”

From Abominable.

Yi (Chloe Bennet) is still struggling with the death of her father. Instead of spending time with her mother (Michelle Wong) and grandmother (Tsai Chin), Yi spends all her free time on the roof of her building or working odd jobs to secretly save up for the trip she was supposed to take with her dad. However, when she finds a yeti hiding on her roof, Yi’s life is forever changed as she forms a bond with the gentle creature and names him Everest. Desperately searching for the yeti is the millionaire, Mr. Burnish (Eddie Izzard) who captured him, his chief zoologist (Sarah Paulson), head of security (Rich Dietl), and a small army of security and when they locate Everest and Yi, she feels she has no choice but to help the yeti get home. Her popular neighbor Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and his little cousin Peng (Albert Tsai) see Yi and Everest running away from Burnish’s forces, so hey head off after Yi to help her. Everest and the kids manage to sneak onto a boat and out of the city to safety, but the closer they get to Mount Everest, the more Yi discovers that the magical Everest is leading them on the adventure of a lifetime. While Burnish closes in, Yi, Jin, and Peng might not know how this adventure will end, but it will be crazier than any of them could ever imagine.

This movie manages to be full of heart and laughs while also managing to be full of action. The animation is friendly and the animation of the yeti’s fur and magic are truly captivating; the voice actors are also well paired with their character. The story is simple at first glance, but it is well-written with some surprising twists that will keep viewers of all ages engaged with the movie. Abominable is a genuinely enjoyable movie that manages to be entertaining without being violent or overly mature for the intended audience.
