From Brittany Runs a Marathon.
Brittany (Jillian Bell) is struggling; she’s an almost-unemployed, broke, and overweight single girl that loves to party, but now that her doctor (Patch Darragh) has told her how overweight she is, Brittany has to figure out someway to lose some weight. Despite the fact that she never takes anything seriously, her doctor’s warning scares Brittany enough so that she decides to try running to lose the weight. When her fitness fanatic neighbor, Catherine (Michaela Watkins) sees Brittany struggle through a run, she invites her to join a weekend running group for a chance to meet more people and gain support. Along the run, Brittany meets fellow out-of-shape runner, Seth (Micah Stock) and the two form a friendship over their desire to use running to get healthier. The more Brittany runs, the more positive results she sees and the deeper she invests herself into running and making healthy choices. Brittany decides that she wants to run in the upcoming New York City Marathon, so she convinces Catherine and Seth to join her; Brittany’s only problem will be finding a way to cover the hefty entrance fee. When Brittany picks up a second job as a dog sitter she becomes friends with the immature Jern (Utkarsh Ambudkar) who also dog-sits for her employers. Always afraid of letting people get too close, Brittany begins pushing people away, and instead, focuses on her training so it becomes her everything. When Brittany sustains an unexpected injury it seems to be the tipping point for everything else in her life to fall apart, so with nowhere else to turn she moves in with her sister (Kate Arrington) and brother-in-law (Lil Rel Howery) to heal and regroup. What started as a plan to lose some weight will change Brittany’s life forever.
Inspired by a true story, this movie is humorous yet full of relatability about modern life and health. Bell is funny and honest as she works her way through the mess that is her character’s life. Definitely an inspirational watch, Brittany Runs a Marathon is the perfect movie for anyone looking for a laugh.
