From Angel Has Fallen.
Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) has done a remarkable job of keeping presidents safe in the absolute worst of disasters; over the years, this has taken a toll on his body, but has also led to his name being recommended for the director position, which does not go unnoticed by Mike’s old Army buddy (Danny Huston) who asks that his private security company be kept in mind if Mike gets the job. On a day like any other, Mike kisses his wife (Piper Perabo) and daughter, then heads out to join his unit as they protect the President (Morgan Freeman) on a fishing trip. The trip quickly turns disastrous when a sophisticated drone attack begins wiping out all of the agents except Mike, who is barely able to rescue the President before the final blast. But when Mike wakes up in the hospital handcuffed to his bed he finds that he that is the sole survivor of the attack and that he’s been implicated in the assassination attempt. The more that Mike claims his innocence more evidence is brought against him by the two FBI agents (Jada Pinkett Smith and Joseph Millson) leading the case. When the real men responsible for the attack take Mike from federal custody to use his murder as their final cover, he’s able to escape and begin searching for who is really behind the attempt on the President. With no one left to turn to, Mike uses a lifetime full of training to navigate his way across the country, but he must eventually seek help from his estranged father (Nick Nolte). With the president still unconscious and the Vice President (Tim Blake Nelson) preparing for drastic retaliatory action, Mike realizes the truth and must risk everything to save the President before it’s too late.
This third installment and the Olympus Has Fallen series it’s full of action, mystery, and adventure. Butlet is a strong lead, giving life to his character both in and out of action scenes. While a large portion of the film take place in rural America, there’s still enough action to keep audiences entertained and there are several surprisingly funny moments scattered throughout to lighten the film. Slightly more espionage thriller than its two predecessors, Angel Has Fallen is a thoroughly entertaining action movie that manages to stand strong on its own merit.
