From Pokemon Detective Pikachu.
Leaving his childhood dreams of being a Pokémon trainer far behind, Tim (Justice Smith) is fine working at an insurance company and leaving Pokémon alone. However, when he receives word from a coworker (Ken Watanabe) of his estranged father, Harry, that his father was killed in an accident, Tim reluctantly heads to Rhyme City to clear out his dad’s apartment. Upon arrival, Tim finds an apartment full of research from his police detective work and a memory-less, caffeine-addicted Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) who Tim can somehow understand. In the piles of research, Tim also finds a mysterious serum that seems to cause normally docile Pokémon to violently freak out. As Harry’s Pokémon partner, Pikachu is sure that Harry is still alive and that he can help Tim find him… if they’ll just work together, so Tim agrees to look into the major inconsistencies surrounding his father’s death. During their investigative work, Pikachu and Tim come across a news station intern named Lucy (Kathryn Newton) who is also pursuing the same story that Harry was working on. Through a clue from Lucy’s research, Tim and Pikachu find out from Rhyme City founder and Pokémon advocate, Howard Clifford (Bill Nighy), that his son Roger (Chris Geere) and a running-evil-experiments scientist (Rita Ora) are behind the serum. Tim, Pikachu, and Lucy must rush to stop the mysterious plan together because time is quickly running out to find Harry and save the Pokémon before it’s too late.
This live action Pokémon adventure features a plethora of magical beasts featured from the trading card game (and app) that are sure to please fans and their overall cuteness draws in new fans, as well. With childhood nostalgia, adorable fluffiness, hilarious dialog, breathtaking animation, and a surprisingly complex story, Pokémon Detective Pikachu is a fun movie with something for everyone.
