“The trick is not becoming one of them.”

From Little.

Demanding and impossible-to-please boss Jordan (Regina Hall) runs a tech company and is heartless after being teased as a child when she decided to become the boss in every area of her life, no matter what that means to the people around her.  When the company’s biggest customer (Mikey Day) threatens to drop Jordan’s company for another one if they can’t win him back with one amazing new app idea, everyone in the company is left scrambling for ideas.  Jordan’s very overworked assistant April (Issa Rae) has a great idea for a fun app, but because she’s Jordan’s assistant, Jordan won’t even let her present the idea.  While her life has been very successful because of her attitude, Jordan’s life has been lonely as she has no one to trust, including her boyfriend (Luke James), and she’s incredibly rude to everyone she meets.  However, when she’s rude to a young girl (Marley Taylor), the girl uses some form of unknown magic to turn Jordan back into her 13-year-old self (Marsai Martin).  Left with no other option, she asks April to cover for her at work while she’s little and in locating the girl to reverse the magic.  Until April and Jordan can figure out how to fix her, Jordan must go to school, face bullies, hot teachers (Justin Hartley), three friendly-but-unpopular kids (JD McCrary, Tucker Meek, and Thalia Tran), and the struggles of middle school all over again… but maybe this time she’ll really learn something about life.

This movie would be impossible without Hall and Martin, allowing the viewer to hate Hall’s mean character and then laughing through Martin’s hilarious learning process; Rae also shines as a solid comedic pairing for both lead actresses with wit. There are a few moments that lean towards more-mature, but overall everyone can enjoy the movie’s humor. Little uses a simple storyline, talented cast, and fast script to create a hilarious movie from start to finish.
