From What Men Want.
Ali (Taraji P. Henson) is a sports agent at a large, successful company and while she is an amazing agent, her attitude and gender make her unpopular with her primarily-male coworkers. When she is passed over again for a promotion to partnership, her friends (Tamala Jones, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Phoebe Robinson) try to encourage her at a bachelorette party, so they get her to speak with the fortuneteller, Sister (Erykah Badu), that they hired. After some resistence, Ali voices her many work place woes to Sister before the psychic reads her fortune and then gives her some tea of questionable legality. Later that night, a miss-step on the dance floor and a bump on the head lands Ali in the hospital and when she regains consciousness, she discovers that she can hear what men are thinking. The freaking out Ali confides in her assistant Brandon (Josh Brener) and after some encouragement from Brandon and Sister, Ali decides to use her new ability to figure out her boss (Brian Bosworth), coworkers (including Max Greenfield, Jason Jones, and Chris Witaske), her new romantic interest (Aldis Hodge), and how to land a contract with a rising star athlete (Shane Paul McGhie) and his overbearing manager father (Tracy Morgan). While the benefit of always knowing what men want are many, Ali will also learn that there are downsides that may cost more than she ever realized.
This gender-swapped remake of the 2000 Mel Gibson’s What Women Want movie is a comedy that will keep viewers laughing from start to finish. Henson leads a star-studded cast with all the major emotion that the role requires; Henson especially soars in the comedic moments when she has other actors to play off of. Some portions of the movie seem to stumble a bit, but overall, this remake works well. While What Men Want probably won’t win any awards, it is a hilarious movie that will keep audiences laughing long after the credits roll.
