“Please do.”

From The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

After then death of her mother, Clara (Mackenzie Foy), her brother (Tom Sweet), sister (Ellie Bamber), and father (Matthew Macfadyen) are struggling to connect with each other as well as the holiday season.  Not in the mood to celebrate but forced to go to the Christmas Eve party at her inventor godfather’s (Morgan Freeman) home, Clara uses the opportunity to ask him for help in opening a mysterious gift from her mother.  For her Christmas gift from her godfather, she follows a string through his house and into a magical land.  Upon arriving, she sees the missing key to her gift, but a mouse steals it before she can grab it.  She gives chase and is attacked by an army of mice, but she is saved by a Nutcracker Captain, Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight).  Phillip takes her back to the castle where Clara learns about the kingdom and the regents over the four realms: Sugarplum Fairy (Kiera Knightley) and the Land of Sweets, Shiver (Richard E. Grant) and the Land of Snowflakes, Hawthorne (Eugenio Derbez) and the Land of Flowers, and the banished Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren) from the Land of Amusements.  Sugarplum tells Clara about Mother Ginger’s evil plans since her mother’s absence and Clara discovers that the realms’ only chance at survival lies with one of her mothers inventions that is missing a key… the same key that goes with Clara’s gift.  Together with Phillip, Clara heads off into the fourth realm to take on mother Ginger, reclaim her stolen key, and save the kingdom that her mother held so dear.

This movie is a visual spectacular filled to the brim with gorgeous costumes, talented actors, stunning set design, and a simple-yet-moving storyline.  Foy leads well for such a young actress and the transformation of Knightley is definitely an unforgettable one.  Except for several characters’ odd creepiness in the Land of Amusements, this movie features a fantasy adventure that the whole family can enjoy.  While The Nutcracker has a few moments of foreshadowing, it is a sweet and enjoyable holiday story for all ages.
