From Johnny English Strikes Again.
When a series of cyber attacks cripples Great Britain’s infrastructure and exposes all of the current undercover MI7 agents, the Prime Minister (Emma Thompson) is left with only one retired agent to investigate the attacks: Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson). Since his retirement English has been covertly teaching spy techniques to children at a boarding school and when offered the chance to come back, he quickly does so. Really outdated in his knowledge of technology and the current world of espionage, English gathers the aid of his friend and old spy assistant Bough (Ben Miller) and together they head off to France to track the source of the cyber attacks. Along the way, they come in contact with the beautiful Ophelia (Olga Kurylenko) who English believes could not be a spy despite her many attempts to end their lives and her deep connection the mysterious high tech yacht where one of the attacks originated. Unsatisfied with English‘s progress or lack thereof the Prime Minister seeks out the assistance of the digital genius Jason Volta (Jake Lacy) in the hope that he’ll step in to repair the damage done to England by the attacks. As agents English and Bough bumble their way across Europe, it becomes obvious that English has no clue what he’s doing, but that also just might be the very thing that helps him save the world.
While there is a solid amount of violence and a few innuendos, the movie is quite clean and blood-free allowing the comedy to be the center of the story. Atkinson is a genius with the character from facial expressions to personality to the simple believability that he brings to the role. A fun movie with loads of physical comedy and blundering mistakes that somehow all work out in the end. Some will find the humor and tone of the only-successful-by-luck spy movie annoying, but fans of the original movies and movies with simple-but-complex comedy will enjoy the crazy adventure that is Johnny English Strikes Again.
