From The Predator.
When a mission in Mexico puts him in the middle of a Predator’s crash landing, sniper Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook) loses his entire team and barely escapes with his life after his run-in with the alien. Quinn decides to send home some proof of his alien counter for safekeeping before he is captured. Dr. Bracket (Olivia Munn) is an evolutionary geneticist contacted by the lead agent (Sterling K. Brown) from an alien research organization is brought in to examine the injured alien found, but when the Predator senses that a larger Predator is hunting him, it escapes from the facility and begins looking for his stolen equipment. After being questioned about the crash he witnessed, Quinn is placed on a bus filled with mentally-unstable soldiers and sent to be locked away. Meanwhile, Quinn’s estranged wife (Yvonne Strahovski) and son, Rory (Jacob Tremblay), receive letters and a box of Quinn’s from the post office and Rory is instantly fascinated with the fancy helmet he finds inside; unbeknownst to him, he activates a locator beacon which broadcasts his position to both Predators. When Quinn realizes that his family will be in harms way, he forms a new unit with his bus of group therapy buddies (Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguillera, and Alfie Allen) and the now-a-government-loose-end Dr. Bracket and they head off to save Rory and hunt down a Predator.
The sixth installment in the Predator franchise is a violent sci-fi thriller that meets all the criteria of a successful killer alien movie. The action, special effects, and actors provide an entertaining ride from start to finish. The story stands on its own while also fitting into the series, both what has already been created and what is yet to come; some of the elements seem to be out of sync, but overall the movie fits together well for viewers looking for a fun watch. It is not the best Predator movie, but The Predator is full of all the things that make the series so entertaining.
