From Dog Days.
Dax (Adam Pally) is lazy and undedicated to anything in his life, but when his sister (Jessica St. Clair) and her husband (Thomas Lennon) head to the hospital to deliver twins, they load off their large, unruly dog on him; even though his building has a strict no dogs rule, he is suddenly responsible for a large dog. Struggling after her cheating boyfriend (Ryan Hansen) left her for another woman (Arielle Vandenberg), news anchor Liz (Nina Dobrev) is forced to work with the handsome-but-infuriating Jimmy (Tone Bell) after her interview with him goes horribly wrong… and viral. When a simple pizza delivery introduces a rude teen (Finn Wolfhard) and a cynical owner (Ron Cephas Jones) of an obese pug, their interaction and conversation leads to the dog running away and the total opposites joining forces to search for the dog. Grace (Eva Longoria) and husband Kurt (Rob Corddry) have just finalized the adoption of a little girl (Elizabeth Phoenix Caro), but are struggling to connect with her as parents until a stray overweight pug shows up and helps break the family’s tension. Tara (Vanessa Hudgens) feels like she’s wasting her degree with her current job, but in order to get closer to a cute veterinarian (Michael Cassidy) she finds herself volunteering at a pet shelter with the sweetly awkward director, Garrett (Jon Bass). When the shelter’s building is unexpectedly sold, Garrett feels hopeless until Tara offers to help him plan and run a fundraiser that could maybe be enough to bring these five dog-lovers’ lives together.
This multifaceted story is full of laughter and simply genuine comedic moments; a great family movie, but not childish for adult viewers. There are many different characters connected to the five distinct storylines, but the story flows in a way that keeps the movie from getting muddled. Dog Days is very entertaining to watch as the characters connect throughout the movie, especially with a cast that perfectly brings out the hilarious highs and lows of loving a dog.
