“Welcome to Jurassic World.”

From Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

After the disaster at the Jurassic World amusement park, Isla Nublar has been untouched by human hands for three years.  The rides were abandoned, the people vacated, but the dinosaurs remained free to roam the island; however, the island is again in the public spotlight because a volcano on the island has change from dormant to active and every day threatens to wipe out the dinosaurs.  The government and advisors (such as Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm) decide to do nothing to save the animals, so when John Hammond’s old business partner, Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), approaches Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and offers her the chance to use her knowledge of the island to guide a rescue mission, she agrees.  The plan is to save eleven species, including the last remaining velociraptor, so Claire must ask animal behaviorist/raptor trainer Owen (Chris Pratt) for his help on this last-ditch rescue attempt.  He reluctantly agrees, however when they arrive on the island, it quickly becomes apparent that everyone other than Owen, Claire, and two of her employees (Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith) have a different agenda planned than that of a humanitarian rescue.  Claire and Owen soon realize that while Lockwood has preoccupied with his health and raising his granddaughter (Isabella Sermon), his right-hand man, Mills (Rafe Spall), has made plans with a familiar scientist (B.D. Wong) and black market contact (Toby Jones) to not only sell the dinosaurs to the highest bidder, but also to create an entirely new species that’s been bred as a weapon.  As the world falls apart around them, Owen and Claire have only one night to stop the release of this new dinosaur onto the unprepared world.

The fifth installment of the Jurassic franchise has everything that makes the series so great with brilliant-looking dinosaurs, scared-to-the-edge-of-your-seat action, and just enough comedy to keep viewers from being overwhelmed.  Pratt and Howard are again the polar-opposite leads that balance the story whenever the action momentarily lulls.  While not as gory as some of the previous films, it still manages scary moments and fights for a captivating movie.  Fallen Kingdom is highly enjoyable and will leave viewers excited to see what’s coming next.
